Thailand the Land of Free People

Thailand is a kingdom in Southeast Asia. It is located in the central part of Indochina and it shares borders with Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Malaysia. It covers and area of 513.000 kilometers and it has a population of around 62 million people. Most of the people belong to the Buddhist religion (around 95%). The kingdom of Thailand was established in 1782 and today it is a parliamentary kingdom.

Although this country is hundreds of miles away from the European countries and USA. Thousands of tourists from these regions visit Thailand every year. The average temperature of 28 C degrees is one of the main reasons for its popularity.

Foreign sailors has discovered this beautiful exotic country in the 12th century under the name of Siam, a name that was official until 1939 when the country adopted a new name – Thailand. Another popular nickname for Thailand is the land of the free, because people there are very proud that they unlike other countries in the region they have never been colonized.

Almost every tourist trip in Thailand starts in Bangkok. Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand and it name means “the city of angels”. This amazing city was founded in 1782 by king Rama and since then it is the capital city of Thailand. Today this huge city has over 10 million inhabitants but the number varies depending on the season. There are many seasonal workers and many tourists that are present in different seasons in the city. During the rainy season (from June until September) the city has the most inhabitants.

The airport of Bangkok is the busiest airport in Southeastern Asia with over 25 million passengers every year. From the moment you arrive on the airport you will be impressed by Bangkok. It is an unforgettable city where you can find hundreds of interesting things to do. It is full of surprises and things that are unusual for foreigners. For example it is not very unusual to see an elephant on the streets of Bangkok and dozens of tourists trying to feed it.

Whether you are in Bangkok or some other place you will be impressed by their traditional dishes. The smell of good food is coming from every direction. All kind of delicacies are prepared on the spot.

If you like shopping than you will definitely love Bangkok and the opportunity to bargain. Although the prices are low you can make them even lower if you are good at bargaining.
