If you are planning to travel to Korea this vacation instead of any other part of the world, then this news will make you happy. Korean government has recently announced Tax Redound Policy according to which all taxes applied on hotel stays will be given back to the tourist. This policy is in effect from 1st April 2014. While this is great Travel news for people coming to Korea for vacations from different corners of the world, this policy will not give any benefit to the people who will visit Korea on work visa.
There are certain eligibility criteria to get refund of all taxes applied on your hotel stay bills therefore, you must confirm at hotel if you fall in the list of eligible traveller. If yes, then you must avail this benefit and use the amount you will get as refund for some extra shopping and fun. While you can confirm everything at hotel when you check in, here are a few points that you may want to consider before you travel to Korea.
Benefit of Tax Refund Policy will be given to independent travellers who will visit Korea for vacations and holidays. If you are visiting Korea on a Work Permit / Visa then you are not eligible for the benefits of Tax Refund Policy. Apart from this, if you are an independent traveller but you stay there for more than 6 months then even you will not get benefits of this policy, as this policy is for those who will stay there for less than 6 months. Tax Refund policy will incur initial cost of the hotel, which may include breakfast as well, but extra room charges and extra service and benefits are not covered under the refund policy. You may also confirm tax refund policy and its benefits at the airport before booking a room in a hotel.
